Hopefully somone with sagelike knowlege in pest controll (AKA Tremor or somone of similar learned status) can tell enlighten me as to the speed of plant uptake of Merit. I bought grubex today at home depot and will be laying down and watering in some tomorrow around my vines and stump in an effort to stave off an attack of SVB's. I have and will continue a Triazicide weekly spray program but the little Bas**rds are laying eggs at the dirt line. They seem to be able to sense the poison somehow and actively try to avoid it. I have thus deduced that my best responce is a clandestine systemic assualt in addition to the frontal triazicide attack. One of the little darlings actually wiggled her business end under a partially burried vine to deposit an egg. (an act which eventually cost her her life) I would especially prefer not to have any of her offspring to deal with next yr if this type of behavior is genetically imprinted.
Well fire away.. what does anyone think of this defense? Any suggestions? The eggs are deposited, I have tried to brush off all I could find. Which by the way an old soft bristle hair brush works well for and doesnt harm the plant.
Thanks folks
Eric

Tremor

Granular is rather slow - 2 weeks maybe.

Liquid is quicker & may also be foliar applied at the same time so the effects are counted in less than 3 days.

Plan if spped is required:

Liquid drench & water - let dry any time of day.
Wait for plants to dry then foliar spray Merit & Talstar combined at sundown.

wow tremor is quick.
Not really what I wanted to hear but the truth is better than a sweet sounding falsehood. What products contain a liquid merit? All I have found is granular. Not even a Wetable powder. Of course I dont have a pesticide lisence.
I am just hopeing to beat the larva to the punch with my pesticide. Or at least prevent as much dammage as possible. I hit the vines and stems hard with the triazicide. I even mixed in a tsb of malithion. I have seen SVB's before and the triazicide spray has always done me right, but this yr they are far more of them than in the past and they are laying eggs in very hard to spray areas. So I figure that I should step up my defence rather than wish I had later.
Thanks alot Steve, I will have to see what I can find.

Tremor

Here is the most popular consumer version. It is well suited to what we're doing.

You should be able to find this at any decent garden center or Lowe's/Home Depot type store.

Way cool
Thanks Steve. This helps with my other question about my cherry trees too. Gotta love killing two birds (pests) with one stone.
