Knock on wood before I even say this, but I am not seeing any signs of SVB anymore. I am not finding eggs on my trap crop of hubbard. I am in Windsor, Ontario, near Detroit, Michigan. Generally, they are around until the end of July at least.

Could it be that they have finished for the season already since they started early? Is it possible to expect a second round if they have finished already? I do not want to spray unnecessarily.

Thanks

JRO im still fighting those suckas on a daily basis. Im picking eggs off on a daily basis. The eggs im getting are just tiny little redish brown eggs like you posted. I havent seen any worms yet though. I thought they were gone and then yesterday I seen one flying around I cant wait until they leave. Ive been using Ortho-max then a couple days late using liquid Sevin along with neem oil every once in a while. If anyones gonna kill my plants its gonna be me.

Man Im still picking eggs off daily if weather permits. I havent seen any wilting yet"knock on wood". I have one bad or soft spot on the main at about 14 feet or so but I dont believe its caused by a borer. I sprayed Ortho max 5 days ago and sprayed Pyola yesterday evening. Im gonna spray more Ortho in two days. I hate to spray too much but heck if their gonna kill my plant what the heck. I still havent seen a grub yet. I checked two stems were it looked like something burrowed in and cut them. I seen a little trail and then it stops about 3 inches down the stem. I just hope my plants alright. Until now I hated aphids and whiteflies the most but they aint got nothing on SVBS.

Well I didnt check to much for eggs yesterday Im checking every other day. Ill spray tommorow night though hopefully Ill win the war before the grubs kill my plants. To those who have never seen a SVB count your blessings their the worst dang critter youll battle. The only time the moths come out is about 2 or 3 in the afternoon so ya cant really spray them. Keep up the war yall kill or be killed.

Ive havent seen them in mornings yet. Usually they only come around my plants at about 2 o clock. Pumpkinbrat ya better check for eggs and destroy them. Im checking tonight which I hate to do because ya really got to get all around the plant and I hate compacting the soil but I gotta save the plants.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR

So. Maine

I keep a fly swatter on hand when I go through the garden ( field pumpkins also ) and you can wack em pretty good with it , at least it stuns em enough so you can pick em up off the ground and squash em like a stink bug . Sometimes it wrecks the leaf but it sure is worth it . Hardest to get during the warmest time of the day , but eaiser to smack em on a cloudy day.
Body count at my place is 77 right now ... best day was about a week ago 23 . Yes I spray but nothing works as fast as doing it this way . If you don't have SVB you don't know what your missing ....

Kill 'em and smear the bodies on your hands and face to leave red/orange stripes (it does feel good). Show the kids what fun it is, and turn them lose in the patch. Chickens are good too. They got me bad here, next year I'm going toxic, red and yellow tape around the patch and all, bio stickers and such. Hate 'em.

bJX2 Wants to go all braveheart on them me likey. I checked my plants last night and Im seeing less and less Svb eggs but still finding one here or there. Im spraying a good dosage of Ortho max tonight and its not sussposed to rain for a couple of days. They havent killed my plants yet but they got all my neighbors zuccini and his Squash I told him to spray but he said he will only use Organic sprays. Well they just dont work as well. I also spray Neem and Pyola during the week but sometimes ya just gotta use chemicals.

Are you guys still seeing SVBs. I know I am a couple different types it seems. My Zuccini plants had three different eggs on their leave. Little yellow ones, gold ones, and red ones. I found one leaf with a hole in its stem and cut it and found a grub. I went hostel on that son of a gun. Im still seeing some eggs on my pumpkin plants but havent found any worms yet. Im still spraying Ortho max which seems to be working.
