Man, I spent 4 hours spraying every stalk and vine in the patch. The SVB moths are gone, but eggs are hatching (found 4 grubs in one hubbard stump). I need to search the whole patch for frass, but did my 14 day bifen spray last night. The rain started 45 minutes after I stepped on my wand and broke it (but I got 90% of patch done). Some may have had time to dry, but since it was dark, I'm sure it didnt all dry. The at 4am we got a heavy downpour.

I guess my question is, since I only sprayed stalks and vines, would most of the rain hit the leaves and not the stalks and vines?

If it didnt dry, would 100% be washed off? or would some stick around. I only need the chem to be present for a few more days until the hatch is done anyhow.

Suggestions? Oh, there is a 50-80% chance of rain for the next 3 days too. I think by then, all eggs will have hatched.

Thanks

Jro Ive been alternating Liquid Sevin and Ortho max and seem to be having the same problems. The eggs Im finding are still tiny little red dots do these eggs grow a lot before the grubs can actually hatch?? Im interested in some answers too. I sprayed Ortho-Max 4 days ago but its rained since then Im thinking about spraying some Liquid Seven tonight.

Jordan; how long did it take for the eggs to hatch ? Sorry I can't answer your question. I think Tremeor might be able to help you with this.

I just lost the whole post. Here goes again.

I found 30 or so eggs on the hubbard on July 4. Looked again in 2 days and found none. Eggs must have been laid a day or so after that. Large grubs in the stump of the hubbard on the 16th. I would imagine 10 days is a pretty accurate estimate. I only found 2 eggs on the pumpkins the day I found 30 on the squash. So I think the bifen is acting as a repellant too.

I sprayed the bifen 14 days ago, so I imagine that it is still present because it had a chance to dry. Last nights spray was just a touch up.

WHAT PERCENT OF GRUBS THAT HATCH ON A STEM ACTUALLY GET INTO THE VINE??? I put that in caps so it wouldnt be overlooked.

The frass coming out of the hubbard was easy to see. There was so much. I will look the whole patch over for any signs, but I think I am going to be ok. The SVBs are done laying eggs in my neck of the woods. So early though that a second wave might be possible (HOPE NOT).

SEVIN will not kill SVBs at all. I think the Ortho Max is esfenvalerate which is labelled for the SVB. As for water fastness, I am not sure about it. I know bifen is fairly good in the rain.

Oh yeah, the eggs in my diary which were on plant parts that were removed never hatched. I tried to put the living grubs I found into soil to incubate so I can be ready for a second wave but they kept climbing out. I guess they werent ready yet.

ALso, I guess I found 34 eggs and 4 in the patch. My numbers were a little off after a check in the diary.
