A few days ago I noticed some of the leaves near the middle of one of my plants were looking yellowish. I thought maybe a lack of nitrogen, or something. Today it looks like more leaves are now turning yellowish. They aren't drooping, but just yellowing. Any ideas on what this is?
I checked out Marty S.'s diary(from IA), and it appears similar to what he's experienced the last few years. I'm just hoping it's something different, and not as serious.

I'm having similar problems. I thought it might have been a reaction to some Ortho Max that I sprayed, as it seemed to start on a couple of plants where I used that on the mains for SVB. Now I'm not too sure, as it is spreading to other plants. Last year I thought the cucumber beetles brought in some mosaic virus, but I haven't had problems with them this year. I will post pics in my diary. Maybeyou can compare it to your problem and maybe someone might know what is going on.

Iowegian,
I'll check out your diary entry.

Wiz,
Thanks for the link. Mine kind of looks like the Molybdenom(I likely spelled this wrong) deficiency.

On old growth check very carefully for mites & Powdery Mildew.

It would be unusual to see older leaves dying quickly from a micronutrient deficiency.

Tremor,
I checked some of the leaves. No leaf damage noticed. It's like the green(chlorophyll) is getting used up, or is disapating....if this is possible?

Sounds like me Doug, is the new growth on some side vines or the main slowing down and turning yellow? If your fruit stop growing and abort then you may have yellow vine disease.no cure. But they say not all plants may get it and its carried by the squash bug. My brother just lost his plant and had no cucumber beetles but I did see a few squash bugs. The plants I have look fine then overnight The pumpkins stop growing and in a couple days I see some yellowing and leaves turn under some.Google yellow vine disease to read more.

My pics got posted and should be up just as soon as they are cleared. Sure would like to know what is going on here.

Doug, my plants started yellowing from the center. Oldest growth first. As many know it was pythium. The leaves looked 100% fine except for the color to begin with. Then within a week or so came wilting, then everything started going down. Sacrifice a vine or even just a tap root or 2 and see if you have any sign of brownish roots.

I followed Chris S.'s advice and found tap roots off the vines with no side roodt; they all rotted off. I have fairly wet, creek bottom soil, which makes pithium sound likely. Doug, what kind of soil do you have? Is it a wet soil that is susceptible to fungus diseases?

Mark yours looks a little different then mine do. Some similar photos of the leaves on the new growth looks as I have it but my roots are white and many.I sprayed copper and sulfer with lots of ferts to the plants and still have a couple going but nothing to brag about. The 1174 is a big plant but all sets on the main abort at 10 days no sign of problems. So not sure what the deal is there.Good luck Doug and Mark.

My soil is a sandy loam that drains well. It's been a dry year here, and I haven't been overwatering IMO. I hope we can figure this thing out...It's frustrating to see this all of the sudden. I saw a bunch of cuke beetles out there tonight. The male flowers are about done for the season, and the beetles are going after the leaves again. I don't know if they have anything to do with it, though. I'm planning on trying an aggressive garlic spray schedule(maybe every 3-4 days foliar).....I got away from garlic spray the last few weeks, and a soil drench of liquid fish/kelp. The pumpkin on this plant is hitting day 25 tomorrow, and has been growing about 3" circ. the past few days.
Of course we could have different things that look similar. Chris, my yellowing is starting from the middle as well. I'll try and check some roots tomorrow. Thanks for your email Marty. I'll check out yellow vine disease. If any of you have any other ideas/cures/prevention/causes...please add to this post, or email me. Thanks alot!

I checked yellow vine disease. The squash bug has been shown to be a carrier of the infection. I did notice squash bugs earlier in the season. The bacteria clogs the the phloem of the plant, if I've read correctly.

Doug, I saw your pictures and my leaves look 100% the same as yours as far as I can tell. Pull up a secondary and look at the roots. If they aren't pure white you may have the same thing.

Oh and I also thought no way I was overwatering. I watered my patch one or 2 times this summer before the plants went down. Less than an inch each time. And you know how much rain we've had.
