Can I bury my vines with sand, or does it have to be dirt? I actually don't have enough extra dirt to bury all of my vines, so if I need more, can I just get top soil? Thanks!

One of the main reasons for burying vines is to anchor them against winds. I wouldn't think sand would be heavy enough or solid enough to hold them down very well. Top soil would probably be a better bet.

top soil would be great, it will also help retain moisture better than sand.

I buy bags of top soil and bury what I can. I was using dirt from the patch but I hated to mess with all the little fine pumpkin roots.

Watch those cheap bags of top soil they call it at Lowes and such... I tested 3 different types and they all had REAL high salts...

I used manuer and miracle grow soil for the patch. Should I get more garden soil? I don't care if it's a little expensive, I won't need that much...I don't think. Thank you!!
