Theres been a lot of discussion of svbs. I know by searching not too many people know about injectable Nematodes. You can buy them from several places on line. I think I have to use them its my last chance. One question and this maybe stupid but will injecting these nematodes effect my pumpkins overall size..would it hurt it or slow it down? Thanks for any replys

One word "PREVENTION"

Ohhh we know about injectable nematodes..We are smarter and prevent having to use them. 1st we treat the plant with a systemic insecticide at planting time. We keep an eye on the plants and watch for insect problems. Start spraying a contact insecticide at the proper time. To PREVENT the vine borers. Prevention is the hardest part of growing these things from Shelter, Pulling Weeds, Pest and Disease Control. Even have to use prevention to get the pumpkin out of the field, and safetly to the weigh off.

I tried to prevent them but there just horrible here. I seen 12 moths in the last two days. I got to actually spray one yesterday it felt good. My question is if its too late and their in my vines would nematodes benefit my plant by killing the grubs but would it also slow the plants growth to a screeching hault. If thats the case Ill just let the plants die because Im not trying to grow a small pumpkin.

We're not trying to kill the adults with our contact sprays (however pleasant the thought). We're leaving a toxic residue so that when the eggs hatch the young larvae are killed bore entering the plant. Systemics like imidacloprid are used in the hope that if we miss a larva it will have a second chance at a lethal dose.

Oh...Injectable nematodes work on if you fins the entry point & deliver the goods directly to the bore hole. It's a lot of work but it's effective. But then again, if you find the borer hole a fine piece of wire does the same thing.

Thanks Tremor at this point Id try anything. I saved one of my plants I think it was a christmas tree pattern and now Id say its well a vine here and a vine there. I pulled my best plant because I found them in the main vine so I just gave up. Next year ill definetly try a systematic spray early in the season. I guess if I cant find the entry point Nematodes would probally be a waste of money.
