The princess of my patch (beautiful orange est weight 250) appears she may be getting a spot spot near the blossom, is there anyway to save her? What are the tell-tell signs of a spot spot without having to puncture the skin? The stem and plant all look fine, just one minor spot causing me concern.

Go to "General Discussion" and check my post yesterday about a rotten spot. Pap had some great advise which I put to use today!

Mark, I am a new grower and not sure if what I have is a "soft spot". My pumpkin is a nice orange color and on the blossom end, I've noticed it has a slight "shriveling" appearance (not smooth like the rest of the pumpkin)and a slight discoloration showing up as a darker orange then the rest of the pumpkin. The spot doesn't feel "mushy". Does this sound like a soft spot? If I put a light layer of captan paste as Pap recomended, could it hurt anything?

a picture would be good,,,but the blossum ends do take on colors and as the fruit age they change,,sucking in eventually as they mature

I just posted some pictures to my diary and a post in general discussion. I have almost exactly what SJeffers is describing. Is this the sucking in you are talking about or something else?

Yes, mine is very similar but not as deep. I read your general discussion topics, how did you apply the calcium? I'd like to try that. Do you soak the towel in diluted calcium? I have calcium nitrate (concentrated) and I also have biomin calcium (concentrate), do I follow the dilution instruction and then soak the towel in the diluted solution, or soak the towel in the contentrated solution?

I put a light layer of Captan's paste on mine and that seemed to improve things. Like yours, mine is growing very well, seeing growth each day. I sure would like to save this one.
