Hello, my name is Greg Dulski and I have a question regarding your product, eXel. My hobby is growing pumpkins, more specifically, Atlantic Giants or cucurbit maxima.

Two days ago, I noticed what seems to be a leaf disorder where the leaves have a 'mosaic' pattern of light and dark green. The disease may be angular leaf spot or, cucumber mosaic. I have not applied a systemic fungicide yet this year. I have applied potassium bicarbonate twice in the past 10 days. I have noticed your eXel systemic product.

Is eXel an inhibitor or will it kill existing bacteria?
Is eXel detrimental to beneficial soil fungi (like mycorrhizae)?

If your product works well, I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Thank you for your time. If you could get back to me in the next day, I would greatly appreciate your quick response!

Greg,

Exel Systemic Fungicide is not harmful to beneficial soil microbes because it doesn’t work like other fungicides which have a general toxicological or anti-fungal effect on pathogens. Exel works through two modes of action:

It acts sort of like a biostimulant by increasing the metabolism of the plant and increasing the plant’s energy levels by increasing production of a molecule called ATP. This allows the plant to resist, fight off, and recover from disease and disease damage
Secondly, it has a direct impact on certain pathogens, like phytopthora root rot, by shutting down the pathogen. Basically, Exel is consumed by the pathogen, but cannot be metabolized and thus, shuts down the pathogen.

Exel is very effective on a wide spectrum of diseases, mainly because of it’s increase on plant metabolism. It is WEAKEST, however, at controlling foliar diseases such as powdery mildew and leaf spots. I’m not sure if it has any effect on bacterial diseases at all. The types of diseases upon which Exel works best are root rot diseases, cankers, and some blights. For more info on specific diseases, check our website and look at the home lawn and garden section and review the label. Also check out Organocide, which is an excellent organic insecticide and fungicide. Organocide works on foliar diseases such as powdery mildew and black spot on roses.

Thank you,

Mike

Mr. Williams:

I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions. I like the features of eXel and that it works by strengthening the metabolism. I wish I could use it for
the existing disease spreading through my plants. You've sold me on it's effectiveness on soil pathogens and I will buy some for my preventative program.

I wish it worked on leaf diseases. I wish the best for you, your family and company.

Sincerely,
Greg Dulski

Greg,

If you’re going to buy it anyway, by all means give it a shot for the leaf disease. Exel has been known to have efficacy on many things that aren’t on the label because of the increase in plant vigor. I would make an application every two weeks for 2-3 applications and see if it has any effects at all. Worst case scenario, you’ve used a couple ounces of material.

Good luck,

Mike
