One of my best plants went down yesterday night. I seen extreme wilting and pulled the plant. I cut every inch of the plant open. I noticed were bore holes were but couldnt find a single grub. Do these bast#rds bore then leave to burrow in the ground and wait again till next year? Its like they feed off a plant then take off and slumber till next season. Anyone out there know much about them. Its just weird that they killed a plant but I cant find any grubs.

Yup, they feed for 4-6 weeks in the plant then burrow into the soil. Sounds like you better be prepared with the chemicals when they emerge next season.

Thanks chris I messed up this year as a rookie and didnt prepare. Im gonna go mid evel next season and really prepare. I thought it was weird that I couldnt find any grubs like I have in the past. i guess my plants were just a all you can eat buffett and they didnt even leave a tip. I think svbs are the worse bug Ive ever encountered exept getting bit by those huge greeen worms on my corn or as we call them pack sadlle worms. They sting worse then 20 hornets. I still have 8 plants but I feel their not long off. I imagine if their in one plant then their probally done feeding on the rest of them. Thanks again for the reply.

Chris some of my stumps were getting really tore up because of SVBs. I poured daconil on them and it seemed to work but only time will tell I guess.

One year the SVB's got my zuchinni and I found at least 12 grubs when I pulled the plant up. I bet if you were to turn the dirt over where your plants was you would find the grubs. Has anyone used beneficial nematodes for these grubs??

No Ive never used beneficial nematodes but I think im gonna have some on hand next year. I did turn the dirt over by my zuchinni that got hit and found grubs burrowed in the soil. I guess they feast on the plants then go in the ground. I pulled one pumpkin plant and found coccoons though. Im starting to do a lot of research on these bugers to get to know how to beat them next year before they get me.

Im very interested in the beneficial nematodes...they are costly but Im sure worth it. The cocoons are SVB larvae...I do know that Gardens Alive sells them but I found another place, cant find the name but will look for it and let ya know. Croley Bend
