this is my first year really trying to grow pumpkins. So, I go on vacation for the last week. I come back and there is a cauliflower like growth right at the vine and the stem of one of my pumpkins. I took a pic and it will be posted shortly. I will post a link when it is up.

Anyone have any idea of what it is based on the description?? My pumpkin has been growing, just wondering what it is. I palce Captan on the growth thingy and I have a fan on it to dry it out since we got tons of rain in the Chciago area while I was on vacation.

any thoughts.

I haven't seen this yet. I hope someone has an answer but I doubt I could leave that thing on the vine/stem. My problem is I always have a sharp knife handy & am more than willing to wield it at ugly alien looking stuff.

Wow, if you don't know what it is I am very worried. The pumpkin is still growing. Obviously if it gets any closer to the pumpkin I will cut it. I only have two and this is the first year I am doing this. I would like to get it as big as I can.

If I cut it, do you think it will store until Halloween?

Kyle, i think he meant cut the growth not the pumpkin yet. slice the tumor off and put some fungicide on it. See what a week in Florida gets you?

Kyle...it looks like you may of had a cut in the main and it healed itself over (really healed itself over, a little more than normal) I would just leave it alone and put some captan on it. If it touches the pumpkin, cut it a little so it does not rub against it and cause a cut in the fruit....Ray

Thanks. Well, if that is the case, my pumpkin sure does want to heal itself, I guess that is a good thing.

Yes Kyle. I shouldn't have joked around at your expense. I was tired.

That stuff looks like dried exudate from small stem splits. Don't cut the stem. But if the stuff is wet, remove it, dust with sulfur or Captan & keep it dry. If it is dry & no longer "growing" - leave it alone.

A fan running 24/7 is helpful if the stem keeps oozing.

Actually you should have joked at my expense. It cracked me up. You have to laugh when you see a growth like that. I just hope the pumpkin keeps growing a bit. My son is getting a kick out of these pumpkins. They aren't big by this board's standards, but they are huge to me. I would just like to make it to Halloween.
