Should I wipe this juice off of the stem and smother it in fungicide ??

With the way that this stem has grown, should I cut the vine a few inches past the stem ??

If I do cut the vine, will that hurt this pumpkin ??

Thanks for your time.

Scott

It could be that the split has formed due to stem stress. That is, as the pumpkin grows up and out, it can pull on the stem and vine. Smothering it with fungicide sounds like a good idea. I also have had success with stem splits by using a fan to dry it out after applying the fungicide. But, stem splits can also be caused by irregular watering. Either way, you treat the split the same way.

Cutting the vine past the pumpkin may not have a serious negative effect. However, you may be able to get away with simply cutting the roots of the vine past the pumpkin. This would allow you to reposition the vine. In turn, this should create some slack in the vine and relieve some stress on the stem.

That sure is an interesting colour of pumpkin ooze. It doesn't look normal to me. But, that's about all I can say about it.

I was half afraid to click on the title of this thread Scott!!,lol. Id like to see Paps comments to the title,Ha!

Id scrape all the mushy stuff out Scott, put some daconil on the bad spots straight out of the bottle using a small type art brush , then get a fan on her until she dries out. I bought a few small fans from Walmart for only a couple bucks that runs on AA Batteries and they work great. The fan will run for a couple days and then you gotta replace or recharge the batteries. I think its cheaper to by a charger and recharge them it would be to keep buying new batteries.
