I have a questions for Steve Jepsen, if he's available: How critical is it that the soil be kept moist but not wet for 8-14 days befofe treating with Basamid? Is there an easy way to tell if it's wet enough? By the way, thanks again for the info you gave me over the phone.

The reason you want the soil moist is to create an environment for the weed seeds to germinate and the fungal pathogens etc to activate. Basamid kills live growing stuff...not the dormant things. Start those weed seeds with moisture and heat....make those nasty soil moisture loving beasties break out of thier dormancy and spore cases...then kill them with the gas from the basamid.

The moisture is VERY critical as it "seals" the gas into the soil. Let the soil dry & the Basamid will gas-off prematurely. Even if the soil is tarped (like the old methyl-bromide) the underlying soil must be moist. Keeping it tarped will conserve moisture so this might be your best solution if water is limited.

Oh...Too wet is also bad so relying on rain is a risky proposition.
