Tremor, The Wiz and I have big time cucumber beetles all of a sudden! Looks like we were fly fishing last night in the patch during a hatch. We are not big on pesticides but see that will change. Treat them now? Can we treat the soil next spring? Will they take down the plants early this year if we don't act now?? Eggs?? The BiZ

Yes treat..Lambda-cyhalothrin or Bifenthrin ASAP. Sevin works but it's tougher on the leaves & kills a lot of beneficials.

TheBiz is right, we got the cukes big time, I have never seen them like this before, I think they came in with the RAT......hourds of them every wheres....For this large of a patch its not going to be easy, but we will give it a shot..... Tremor....Wont the neeme oil also help with the PM? Perhaps two pains with one spray ehh?

One good spray with bi-fen will destroy them.. With the tempatures falling off and the long residual one shot is all you should need. (IMHO) If you have used any imidacloprid this year that should start working on them 2.

I found that garlic works as a natural repellent. Some people use sprays, but I found that the garlic powder you buy at Wal Mart for $0.50 a bottle works good too. Just sprinkle it around the patch. I still would kill the little demons first and use the garlic to keep their buddies from attending the funerals.

You guys are right. Most States have now restricted Bifenthrin. It's good to be licensed.

Lambda-cyhalothrin is sold to consumers as Trizicide (among others).

Neem does control PM but is only moderatly effective against a large infestation of CB's. If you have to make frequent re-applications of Neem to keep the CB's at bay you'll end up aging the leaves. Then again new generations this late in the year aren't likely.

Garlic Barrier would be the mildest solution & by the reports I have received, proved extremely effective where it was used this year.

We're going to combine Talstar with Garlic Barrier in our CB program next year.

Biz Sprayed some oil foliar too, lots to cover...Does anyone push insecticide through their Stilh (Not at the same time) and also foliar ferts? Were are going to get a mist blower(Thanks Nana) and it would be nice to be able to use it for both.....

Burrhead,
Which bird gets killed with the addition of baking soda??
I have some areas that have to be PM. But am using Sevin for aphids now. Neem oil sounds more friendly and I did see some beetles in our back yard.
Thanks,
Puter

puter the baking soda aids the neeme oil in stoping the pm they work well together and also by adding the baking soda you can cut back a little on amount of neeme oil you got to use thus if you have to reapply later wont hurt leaves aka two birds with one stone!
