I just posted a pict in the gallery, I do not have a diary and have yet to figure out photobucket. My runner up went down last week, it blossom split and then got the strange mark in the pict in the gallery which began to mold thereafter. My #1 has a couple spots that look the same this eve, was really hoping to make weighoff with this one because I may not be so humble this year if so! #1 and only gets covered during the day with sheets, uncovered in the eve, then covered again with sheets and a tarp. I don't think it's a rub, too smooth.

Sorry to say, it looks like your pumpkin was rotting from the inside out. If it had blossom split then as air gets into the pumpkin it starts rotting. If your other pumpkin is showing similar spots and there are no cracks or holes into the cavity you could try some calcium and maybe a fan to keep it dry. We don't cover ours with tarps during the day or night. We have sheets and now blankets on them and leave them on all day and night. We uncover only the stems or blossoms if we are starting to develop a problem that we want to air out. I think that the tarps trap too much moisture in which can lead to powdery mildew amoung othe things. Good luck, hope I am wrong.

Thanks Sherry. I wondered about the inside out thing, just never seen that type of mark before, it showed up quick and looked weird, it was solid to the touch until it started to mold. My last one has a couple marks too, but now I'm beginning to wonder if they are rub marks from the sheets and tarp. It's otherwise intact from what I can tell, some ca+ and captan last eve so we'll see I guess. Thanks again!
