Had a huge fight with powdery mildew this year. We picked up some cucumber plants from a local nursery that were diseased from the start, and they proceeded to infect all of our zuchinni, field pumpkins, and then my AG's. Does this stuff come back from year to year or will a good winter kill off what is left in the soil. Thanks.

All diseases can be expressed on a triangle. Each leg represents one of the three critical aspects of fungal disease requirements.

1.) Susceptible host
2.) Causal pathogen (spores in this case)
3.) Environment

Spores are airborne every day of the year since there is always Cucurbits growing somewhere on Earth. Once the conditions are favorable to disease, it WILL happen if no other factors intervene.

Thanks Tremor. I tried an anti-fungal solution. Didn't work. Maybe I just need to use more next time.

PM starts UNDER the leaves so all sprays (regardless what they are) must be applied to the leaf bottoms to get control. Even systemic fungicides won't push through the leaf effectively enough to stop PM.

The best cure I know of is a hard frost, worked great on my patch this year, no more PM. No more leaves either, no more growth, looks like the patch was naplamed. No more PM tho, one problem solved, on to the next.

Darren need to spray early and often.

I emailed a couple of HH this year and asked them the best way to control PM.
just like Steve said make sure you spray the underside of the leafs.
I used 6 different fungicides 3 contact 3 systemic worked really good here.
the growers i talked to use more than 6 types of fungicides.

Ed did it the right way if you're trying to avoid resistance problems (which is good). I took the lazy route & sprayed Eagle every time (4 times) & got decent control.
