This year is the lightest year I have ever had for seeing cuke beetles in my patch in Ohio, although I did lose my 1295 Jutras to bacterial wilt, I still haven't seen many cukes this year in years past, how about you guys, you have much trouble with em? You think next year might be a break out year for em since this year was so light, I sure hope not?

Brooks,, there was a huge western migration this summer. Don Young met the wrath of the hoard when they dropped in at Des Moines,,,Don's video will feature the use of "beetle" mulch and how it contributed to his fruit growth this year ;-)

The number of cuke beetles in my patch was very low this year. I think it was due to the winter weather which started out mild and wet then quickly froze the soil.

Early, not nearly as bad as they were in 2006. Later they came on big time. A friend who had none in 2006 had them late this year. I had good success using garlic powder to repell them.

They were pretty heavy here this year...similar to last year. I sprayed Garlic Barrier, which kept leaf damage down. I'm curious about this cuke beetle mulch. I thank Don Young for his comments on Garlic Barrier...which led me to try it. Still trying to be chemical free here.

Not bad at all now squash bugs and svbs were a whole different story though. Maybe they were feasting on the cuke beetels:)
