The pic you posted of the "bug" is the skin from a Periodical cicada, I think. If I'm right, they only eat twigs from trees and shrubbery. Maybe you can research and fill us (me) in. Best of luck with your Pumpkins!

The youngins' eat roots while they are in the ground. Up to 17 yrs! Adults eat the twigs. Thanks G for clarifying that!

Good Call Pappy and G....next bight 2013 here yuk spent the whole summer last time indoors ugly and noisey! still get a few on the off years!
