SVB killer (Merit) and SVB killer (Talstar equivalent) arrived today (6/9). Our supposed 'date' supplied by university ag dept is 6/10.

I purchased a 4 pack of 1.6 oz packets of Merit, which say 1 packet for 300 gallons. Judy on chat said a sheet she got at Niagra says 1/10th teaspoon per gallon.

Also it's been told that night instead of morning is better application... and. Drench (soil ?) and get the foilage top and bottom and avoid all tips... or drench soil and skip foilage and leave that for the Talstar in a few days?

Sigh. I'll feel better after dealing with dosage and spraying the grower club's patches. Advice? Hints? Toss valium? Yes I know that the Merit especially is icky stuff and I'm prepared for correct handling.

Adding, it's 75% Merit, and apparently in industrial/pro packaging... Thanks. I have another that's said 1.5 teaspoons per five gallons... so instead of .1 teaspoon per gallon, they're advocating .3 teaspoons per gallon. I actually do have a 1/10th teaspoon...

Merit 75WP - 0.1 tsp/gallon is for foliar use. If you plan on doing a drench then the mix rate varies, which is how I would use it. Do a search on here and you should find all the info you need on how much and how to drench with Merit.

Talstar - I would use the Talstar right away, like tomorrow evening. I've mixed it from .2-.5 oz/gallon H2O. It seems to work just as well at .2 oz for me as it did at .5 oz. I have had some leaf burn at .5 oz however and I always spray at sundown. Make sure you spray the tops and undersides of the leaves, stalks and vines with the talstar. If you leave any spots unprotected the insects will find it.

I'd do the Merit drench the day after you spray the Talstar.

Okie,
1/8 tsp of 75ws Merit and 1/2 oz Talstar or Bifen IT per gallon. Apply foliar including botom of leaves were possible and pray a little around stump area for plant to absorb merit. I spray every 10-14 days. just make sure foliar spray has a chance to dry before watering patch or rain. If sprayed in mid day sun the Talstar will burn young leaves.

MnJ...I believe that your part of the country doesn't enjoy the lovely Squash Vine Borer...but east of the rockies they seem to know where every patch is located.

I'm following VTJon here, and did spray tonight. On one patch I did find and smush a borer so our official day is the 10th and next year we will start spraying the 8th... thank you everyone; we'll see how morning goes.

1/8 tsp merit mixed with 1/2 oz Talstar per gallon is what i always use and I feel it does a wonderful job. Last year I added Garlic Barrier to my spray program and was happy with the results. I have garlic barrier on order and it should be here any day.

My opinion is that the merit / talstar mixture followed up with garlic and you should have the best bug control you could ask for. Works for me anyhow.

Tremor, actually not bad, unless you're a bug. In which case your number's up in BC. John, Frantz, I'm sold on that mix now having used it. I need to see if my garlic brewhaha is ready to sprout a toxic mushroom cloud and get sprayed...

It's going to be a long summer.... And thanks for the help and comments everyone.
