I have been walking my pumpkin patch every evening for the past 2 weeks. I have killed as many as 22 SVB in 1 trip through the patch. In the last week, I have noticed a dramtic reduction of adult SVB and tonight I didn't see the first one. yaay!! Are they gone for the year?

If you missed just 1 , I'd say it called for reinforcement and they will be back to attack ! Be ready for them . My body count here is 93 and that's no bs . I hope you have been spraying something that will kill off the borors when they hatch. AL

no. they are never gone. Cyclical yes....but they may be back and you should never leave yourself unprotected. generally speaking the bugs developement from eggs to adults is controlled by environment....more specifically heat. If someone grew zucchini in the shade of the corner of the house the pupae from the borers that ate that plant will hatch to adults LATER than the zucchini planted in the warmer micro-climate that homeowner planted his early plants in.....also, if the early emerged adults hooked up early in a warmer area then thier eggs would hatch earlier also....and the cycle goes on....early enough, warm enough and a season long enough and you'll get waves twice a year...and stragglers inbetween.....down south maybe 3.....
