i saw a hole in my stump today that looks like it is from a SVB. if this plant is attacked, how long until i start noticing the plant is dead?

Jeremy are you seeing any "sawdust" otherwise known as Frass outside the hole...It's not to late to get the buggers if it new....quick incision...pull em out...otherwise you can pretty well expect the plant to slow down immediately and then a slow shrivel and death...

depends on how many are in there. i think a plant can normally survive a couple borers. i pulled a plant one year that was dying - i lots count at 40+ grubs inside.

i wouldnt say i see any sawdust yet. just looked like a ripped hole.

how would you know where to make in incision to get them out and what exactly are you looking for to take out?

i am gonna go buy some good inpesticide spray today. hopefully the plant is ok.

what type of spray is the best?

You're looking for a white grub inside the vine eating its way through the middle, hence the name vine borer. Are you sure you have a vine borer and not just a hole in the vine? I've heard you can take a flashlight put it behind the vine, as you're looking at it, and shine the light "through" the vine. If there is one in there you might be able to see its outline in the light passing through the vine. Then you can make the cut. Try posting a pic of the hole in the vine.

I tired injecting OrthoMax into infected hubbard vines this year.

Killed the SVB nicely.

I used a 3ml syringe, with an 1.25" 18g needle.

What is good for the hubbard is good for the AG.
