Well i have an estimate 90 + pounds and just recently the skin is looking weird. kinda dry sunken look but not soft. It doesnt look good though. Anyone know what the problem is? here are pictures. What can i do to prevent this or stop it if possible. any help would be apreciated. Thanks

i have been its been moving along pretty fast i mean at least for me The last few days it apeared to slow down though a 3 day estimate showed 4.3 pounds a day. I need to measure it tomorow and see what its recent estimate is. Its only 25 days old at about 90 pounds or so. Thats unfortunate if it is an abort. because it has been leading my patch for a while and its estimate put me above my pb which isnt much but its my second year. Today i was going to cut the main off but after examining today i thought to myself that i better not. It did recently set another one 12 more feet down the plant. putting this pumpkin at like 25 feet from the stump so i am leaving the newly set one on it at this point.

Garden State Pumpkins

It looks more like a disease to me. If the pumpkin developes Black patches through the skin. Blotches...It could be Anthracnose (sic)...Only a tissue sample will confirm this...if the disease is in the patch usually the next pumpkin set will have it...the patch has it...I had a similar problem a few years back and it turn out to be fusaria/anthracnose infection...they normally wouldn't get that large though...would abort at the basketball size the then blotches would show through. but that white pasty color looks awfully familiar. hmm that could be it. i have had something like it before but the pumpkin was no where near the size of this one. And according to searches that seems to be quite close of a match. Do you still grow in that same soil? This patch seems horrible. been hit with furiasm wilt, bacteria infections, and this would just add to it. Well time will tell on this pumpkin. I guess a fungicide could prevent it from occuring in the first place? Thanks again.

Garden State Pumpkins

Unfortunately the only cure is four years off....soil sterilization is possible with treatment and solarization...sterilization also kills the beneficial bacteria....recolonization with beneficial bacteria takes awhile. You could do it now and hopefully the patch will be usable again next year.....all your tools should be bleached off...moving from your patch to another patch will transport the disease..be careful...Good Luck.

wow! I kinda figured that sterilizing wouyld kill the good bacteria as well and i have been sterilizing my tools in between working with infected areas and clean areas just to prevent this from spreading any faster. Thanks for your help. I will have to figure out what i am going to do. I figure i will just fight it till the end of the season , or as long as i can push them along.

Just for the record. it definately is aborting it or something of the sort as it is now have obvious signs of rot on it.
