Im sure this has been addressed many times over the years but I couldnt find any definate answers searching this site. I have a stump that had some soft spots and is now starting to foam and the soft areas are spreading. Anyone have any success fighting stump rot / foam. Even if I cant stop it is there anyone who has slowed it down? Hate to lose the stump on this one.

Thanks Mike

Mike,

Call me in the morning on the cell.

The CT Ag Station has a cucurbit specialist. Every time we talk about this he asks me to get him a sample that he can get under his microscope.

NO ONE HAS EVER SUBITTED A SAMPLe.

Drives him crazy. LOL

The foam is a symptom. Not the disease. I've heard Sclerotinia, Furaria & Rhizoctonia.

None confirmed.

Call me.

Jerry Rose & I came up with a POSSIBLE solution. The one time he tried it the patient lived.

The 1470 was grown without stump from about 800 lbs up ,,, Hope yours stays though !! Ps; eather a ground squirrel or a gofer ate the entire roots off my 733 ciliberto & i didnt know it untill long time after, that plant still didnt wilt in heat & the pumpkin is growing the best for its size of my 4 pumpkins, its the youngest though ,I will have to see what is in the long run ! Just incase its needed id run some secondarys out a bit farther !!

The only hope for foaming in the stump is to take a knife and make a small hole at the base on the underside and drain the liquid out. Then, irrigate the stump with some hydrogen peroxide solution and apply some captan and pray. Keep rain off of the stump for the rest of the season.

I got a foaming stump also on my Van Hook 881, I will do what lcheckon says, but what is VC and VCP? On mine, it seems the first side vine from the stump is also affected. Its like it hollow (the side vine).
