I live up Michigan where we theoretically shouldn't see too many cuc beetles. However, I saw my first and only one today. How worried should I be. I have been using Spectracide this year and will definitely re-apply tomorrow, but just how bad is this. I only saw the one and let me tell you, until I saw him I never understood how heavy hitters could just squish a beetle between their bare fingers. That was a first as well. Any advice?

Those harmless looking little bugs can cary diseases and take your pumpkin plant down quick. Nuke them.

Keep a close watch. I had a few one day, then thousands the next. Iowegian's not kidding when saying "quick". I lost several AG's, and 25 of my regular pumpkin plants. Literally, here today and gone tomorrow! Garlic Barrier, Cedar Guard, Merit and Talstar finally did the job.And believe me....I can squish a beetle with the best of them!

Saw #2 today. He died a little slower than the first. Did I just say that?

I have gardened for several years, but never noticed cuke beetles until my third year of growing A.G.s. I've had fairly heavy infestations of them ever since(the past 3 years).

Last year I had cuke beetles by the thousands in my patch...there was no getting rid of them. They just laughed at every spray, including garlic barrier. This year thankfully we haven't seen too many (knock on wood). Just because we're up north a-ways doesn't mean we don't have them, so take our advice and KILL THEM quick.

By the way, which weigh-off are you going to?
