This is my first time growing an Atlantic Giant. I was very happy with my pumpkin, which is nearly 400 lbs. Unfortunately, when we picked it the other day, I noticed a split in the stem. It was soft on one side. We tried to remove the soft area, but it is getting worse. Is there any way to save it for a little longer? We are having a party in 3 weeks and really wanted the pumpkin on display. Is there any way that I can take out the stem and seal the pumpkin up with something? That is, if it isn't already rotted on the inside . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v476/scrappie/P1010336.jpg

you can try to scrape of and out all the soft parts, then bleach it and dry it. keeping it dry is crucial. Looks pretty far gone, but you can try. Some make pastes out of powdered fungicide and use the paste as a putty. Getting rid of the soft parts, disinfecting it, and then drying it is most crucial now though, good luck.
