Help, what is this tiny creature, my 771 looked beautiful yesterday, today it was wilted, I carefully dug down and found a hole in the stem, I pulled the plant and opened the stem, inside was the worm. Is this a cut-worm, if so what is the best way to get rid of them. I usually use sevin dust early but this was below the surface, should I mix some liquid sevin/ and drench all the seedlings? I've never had this problem before! I lost the 480 Walters also, I suspect the same thing for that one
Thanks ]

Hi Amy, Sounds to me like you have white Grubs. Check your liqid Sevin Bottle for information on white grubs.

Amy, I can almost guarantee it is not white or annual grubs as they feed on the roots and are not a boring larva. It could be onion maggot, seed maggot or any number of other larva that are not specifically a pest of cucurbits, but just happen to be in close enough proximity to your seedlings to have made a meal out of it. A soil insecticide like diazinon will take care of this.
