I just lost my 1239 Werner to those maggots! See my diary for a picture of the carnage! I was thinking about Lorsban or Admire for a treatment.

Merit the seedling & the patch. Merit is slow but with the advent of warm weather the CSMs should have moved on. This is the second year Mark. Did you add more manure?

This is what I did this past week. I used grub-ex spread over the planting area, then I used Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub which has Merit in it.I watered it in deep were my new plants will be set. Corn Maggots flys are attrached to the smell of fresh manure. But they also love a garden high in organic. The trouble here is, the new farmer who bought the farm that surronds me is planting corn only here on the hill. They must of hauled at least 200 tanker loads of liquid manure here. it's smells like real country air. So i feel the fly's would lay there eggs just about any where.

milford, CT,

Tremor..No Manure added this a year..OM was at 9% ...It might be similar to what Pumpkinbrat posted...I had OM of 20% 2 years ago and there are pockest of richer soil underneath..I might have just hit one of this high organic areas...Thanks for the posts guys!!!..Mark

I had a cover crop of winter rye I tilled in a few weeks ago. I think I'll go back to planting oats in the fall. This way, the oats will die during the winter and there won't be any Green Manure as they call it to turn under like winter rye in the spring.
