Some of my first leaves looked like that, now that the plant has grown more, the new leafs look like they are suppose to look.

Im with Bumkin, bamboo stakes can cause tears REAL quick.

some tears on the inside of the edges were caused by birds pecking in my patch i didn't know until i saw them. They did recover ok.

Tremor

Wind.
Rough handling.
Sloppy leg work.
Birds especially if the patch is harboring leaf feeding insects.
Find the attraction, control it & the birds should move on.

no bambo stakes, no ruogh handling.some of the new smaller leaves have these little tears, hoping wene the plant spreads out the leaves may not touch each other as much. like tremor said maybe wind, thanks for the replys, Bill

it happens..theyll be fine these plants are tough and will rebound. so many more leaves will form any youll be fine. preety soon you wont even notice minor tears in leaves many more real leaves to follow..then its time to prune
