Looking for help. My yard is 80% wooden stockade fenced 6' high. The remaining stretches have 7'deer netting tight to fencing and structures...and I'm still getting hit every couple nights...hoof prints in garden and plants getting decimated...sunflowers,parsley,beets,you name it! Walked the perimeter 3x tonite looking for landing areas where fence might be jumped...no signs...some is lawn area and I'm no Daniel Boone print reader...lOL! Looking for ideas if you've got any experience? Since this is a family channnel, please respond to my email addy if you're think claymore mines or bouncing betty type defenses so we don't alienate anyone!

some melon growers will string monofilimant fishing line that is clear across there patches making several passes across it about knee to waist high. Supposedly when deer run into it and not seeing what they ran into makes them spooky and they leave

Go to your local barber shop and get a bag of clipings. Spread them around the fence area. Ivory soap hung on the fence. A radio playing at night.

Duff, a small portable radio, Find a all night talk radio show and let her play. At night even when the volume is turned down on a low setting you will be surprised how the noise carries.Surprisingly the batteries do last a long time. Just make sure you out it under something so rain cant get in it. Its by far the best animal deterrent I have ever used.

Thanks for weighing-in folks on my dilemma. Strung a deer nose high electric wire around tonite and we''l see how successful it is? Neighbor's too close for lead solution. Cats wouldn't be pleased about a bowser. Radio might play in retaliation to neighbors poor music taste...LOL! I thought it was Irish Spring soap that had some deterrent effects...been there and done that w/o success! Mono-filament is like electric fencing to me...if i have to mow around it and do the watusi to get into patch/garden, then I might as well make it hurt some...LOL! Thanks again everyone, and keep those ideas coming!

If you put up a true electrified fence it helps to train the deer what it is all about. You can do this by wrapping a piece of alumium foil around the wire with a tab hanging out from it. On the tab you put some peanutbutter. The deer will be attracted to the peanutbutter and ZAPPO.

I use an electric fence too. My top wire is at 10 feet. We have ALOT of deer here and they will jump a 7 foot fence like it isnt even there.

there is a product that I've heard professionals swear by, it is not cheap, maybe 30 bucks or more but is a latex based stuff that you spray on I think and lasts all season, might be called tree guard. If you are interested,I will dig further cuz I know it is in a catalog I have. only other think might be sour milk and rotten eggs but must be applied often.

Hey Duff , thought you would like that one .... my buddy Jim Kuhn said to have you give him a call when you get a chance ,he said he has a couple of ideas to discuss with you . I like the idea of the extra high electric fence , as you know the deer do have limits on how high they can jump... GOOD LUCK , AL

Hey Bruce, made my first batch of "peanut butter snaps" and set them out for Bambi tonite...fingers crossed! Rick, pumpkins and gardening is a "hobby" for me. Just not ready to string phone poles around the patch yet, but I do appreciate the input. Hoping our northern deer aren't as athletic, LOL! Thanks Pumpkineater, but look no further on my behalf. Just not enough time in the day what with all the other stuff needs doing...and on top of that, the rain we continue to have here in the NE would wash anything off I think. Huff, sounds like your friend won't be available this season...LOL! Schweigert, how sheets you figure effective for a tad shy of an acre? And Al, figure to give Khun a buzz tomorrow...duh, why didn't I think of that!
Thanks again all...3 days unmolested and counting!

If you have the room on the outside of the fence put up a rope about 3' high and 3' out from the fence. What this does is it takes away the point of "take off" to jump the fence.

Yes ,the stuff is called treeguard - put that in a search engine and you will get their web site. Not for edible crops I think , but from all the different credible sources I've heard from, I guarantee it will work.

Small bars of soap, like you get at a hotel work well. Just hang them around the patch and the smell will keep them away. Leave the wrapper on so the rain doesn't melt it too quickly. I have used this for years to keep deer away from new tree seedlings and it works very well.

Use bobbex. I know people around my area { where there are more deer than people in some towns } that swear by it.

I tried the deer net they jumped through it. dial soap urine repellents have all failed. 3 years ago put up a fence. I have 4 ft high chicken wire. attached to 4x4 at ground level with re bar in ground. keeps the groundhogs out. above the chicken wire at 12 inch intervals i put electric wire, not charge just nailed to 4x4. i have 4 additional feet. nothing gets in now.

I had trouble with the deer.
I raised the deer netting up to 8ft.last year. that took care of my deer problems.
