Hey all. Quick question regarding powdery mildew. I have been making weekly applications of Phyton 27 (systemic copper fungicide/bactericide) at a rate of 1 tbsp per 1000 sq. ft. of plant. However, I have noticed a few leaves have started to develop PM. Do I need to step up the Phyton rate or add another product to the rotation? What would you rotate with to keep it in check?

This is the first time I am living in a climate where PM can be an issue so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Copper isn't noted for it's powdery mildew performance. Phyton is more for bacterial infections. Eagle (myclobutanil) is a better PM preventive.

Anyway, once PM gets cooking we're much better off using Stylet Oil with Armicarb as an eradicant. Systemic fungicides should be avoided once PM is active to avoid producing a resistant strain of PM.

Thanks for the info Steve. Can I follow up on the Stylet application with a product like Eagle? I don't have either at the moment but I will have to add them to the arsenal if that's what it takes.

Yes - no problem if several days have passed. Just watch mixing the Fyton with other actives.

Thank you once again. Can you recommend a source for both?

We sell all of these items but we only have stores here in New England & NY.

Seed Outlet & Extreme Pumpkin would be the first places I'd look for online ordering.

Yes Gritch, that's the stuff. Not a bad price either. We only sell oil by the 55 gallon drums & we can't ship less than 4 drums banded to a pallet. Even then we keep to local destinations.

Brian,
I used to get PM pretty severely every year. A local grower told me that he sprayed Alaska fish with a hose end sprayer once a week and he didn't get it hardly at all anymore. I was very skeptical but figured it couldn't hurt, especially since I was already using fish ... as a drench at the stump.
I used it the last two year and my PM has been greatly reduced. 1 cup per plant per week is what we use.
Others have had success with milk... but I don't have any experience with it.

milford, CT,

Eagle 20 works really good ..especially if you catch Pm before it gets going..do a google search..Reputable websites that sell it will tell you if you can or cannot ship into your state. Mark

Thank you all very much for the links and suggestions. Gordon, I did not know that about fish. I have been running Alaska fish through the sprinklers with the EZFlo injector every week, but much less than 1 cup per plant. I am going to step up the rate a bit on the fish, as well as try to get my hands on some Eagle and the Stylet oil.

Thanks again!

I know we're all trying to grow pumpkins and NOT mycorrhize but does anyone know if Eagle will kill the mycorrhize that most of the serious growers have been trying to farm in the soil?
