For the first time, I have beeen hit by seed corn maggots. I have lost 2 plants, and can't afford to lose any more. What's my best bet for protecting the remaining plants? My biggest concern is damaging the plants with pesticides as they are still very small (2-3 true leaves). What should I do to the areas that I've lost plants in, to make them safe for the replacemnts? Is there a size at which the plants are no longer a target for the maggots? Finally, is there a point in the season that the threat diminishes, and I can let my guard down a bit? Thanks, and good growing to all in 2010.

Avoid fresh manure. Once the soil warms they'll be gone.
