HARBOR GROWER

Gig Harbor, Wa

We finally have had some sun in the northwest so the plants are really growing but I also noticed bright yellow forming on a few mature leaves following the veins on the leaves. Could this be due to the weather change? Could it be a nutrition issue, or even a disease problem? Any help would be appreciated so I can nip the problem in the bud. I will post a couple pictures in my diary tomorrow, "Harbor Grower" for a look at what I am talking about if anyone can help.

What does "...following the veins on the leaves" mean ? Are the veins green and the other leaf tissue the yellow area ? We may not have enough info, but this could be an iron chlorosis issue due to pH imbalance and inability of plant to take-up iron in the soil. Could be a water issue....with too much rain, and you are in WA.

Can't stop the rain, but you can construct an impervious cover/tarp above ground where your stump vine is located. Limit the amount of (excess) water that gets to your plant and avoid over-saturation of stump roots. Those roots just might have 'feet' that are too wet, and the plant is suffocating.

Hmmm, too much rain, I wish I could have too much rain for a while. Otherwise....do the very best thing anyone could do, apply a heapin' helpin' of a mature and rich compost around the stump vine and let the microbes go to work to balance your pH and optimize root-sourced feeding. Add some dry molasses and horticultural corn meal to that compost just before application. You likely need (as do most pumpkin growers who post here) much more biology working for you....and much less chemistry and complex chemical molecules entering the soil and being applied to plant tissue.
