I have a serious problem with yellowing of the leaves. It starts at the base of the plant and goes down about 4 to 5 feet. This yellowing of the leaves and stems is moving at a steady pace. The leaves are turning yellow and the stems are turning white. Im sure its not a pest problem. Im am not sure what this is but its becoming a serious problem. Does anyone know what this might be?

You know, that by not giving more related pieces of information, nor our being able to see those plant(s), it brings one to asking questions and making suggestive guesses. 80% of any gardener's success, or failure, is likely sourced from the soil.

Was the full length of the plant nice and lush green from the stump to the tip, and then the yellowing began ? Has all leaf tissue been off-color since the start ? Describe your soil for us. Have you had excessive rain recently, and is that soil saturated so as to deprive the roots of needed air. Are you certain that adequate organic matter was in that soil, and well-aged, so as to deliver the appropriate form of nitrogen that plant wants ?

From what you say, it appears that the photosynthetic process has completely shut down ! Did you prep your gardens with an over-kill application of varied synthetic chemical fertilizers, thinking that "more is better", and now those after effects are being experienced ?

Remedy #1.....is to monitor soil moisture content closely, work a mature and bio-rich compost into the top few inches of soil, and apply moderate amounts of (something like) a fish-and-seaweed solution. When plants are restricted or limited in receiving nourishment through the roots....one can foliar-feed and hope that such 're-primes the pump' so to speak, and maybe that plant can recover. Wait till the sun is setting and foliar feed that plant when the night air is dry.

We need more information.
