has anyone ever had the experience of a section of vine girdling inwards and shrinking with rot at a very fast past. i dissected the diseased or rotten area and immediately a bunch of foam bubbles came out of the areas. i have saved th sections shown in this picture to send to a lab. the one half on the left was put in a bag over night. then i decided to cut off the other side too and show them side by side together at how the vine narrowed and girdled. so the right side doesn't look as bad as the left that sat in the bag all night, but you get the idea i think with the pic. the rot and foamy juices extended about 4 more inches to the left of the cut section here. i chopped a good 8 more inches off all the way to the last secondary before the pumpkin and am trying to salvage anything from the plant and let he back half feed the pumpkin and reverse spider around some secondaries to fill in the patch. i know it will not be a monster, but interested to see what it can do in the worst of circumstances for myself and future growers who lose the main between the pumpkin and the stump. if anyone has seen this before, please post here or shoot me an email at shazzyshaz@aol.com also i would like someone to refer me to a good lab to identify the disease or rot spore that affected it. with the white foamy bubbles in the vine, i thought this might be a good way to possibly identify the culprit or possible reason why mister foamy shows up on some stumps and what made it show up in my main vine. thanks.

duff

Topsfield, Ma.

Last season I inadvertently girdled the main vine on my 1161 Rodonis with an early season coat hanger used to help train the vine. Some how missed it and the area foamed and rotted. Keeping with the bamboo stakes now...LOL!
