I just posted a pic in my diary, but it's not available yet.

There is a 1 1/2 inch long split in the skin on the shoulder down in the well next to the stem along a rib line. It is a very superficial stretch mark (I hope) that is just barely skin deep, has already started scabbing over and only oozed about 3 drops (not still oozing). I went ahead and pasted with captan.

How does the saying go, "If you ain't blowin' them, you aint' growin' them".

Growing at this rate:
Jul 5th grew 30 lbs
6th grew 28 lbs
7th grew 33 lbs
8th grew 28 lbs
today grew 38 lbs

Ground is at a good saturation. We got 2 inches of rain today. 1st rain in 11 days.

Any other suggestions?

hey john denver...lol...take a look form my 1446 werner pumpkin 2 years ago. these started on day 28 and this picture was 5 days later.

just enough to make yu nervous, but its the best area to get splits if you get them at all. no problems and remained superficial stretch marks all season long. it fihished the season fine.

this is what it looked like later in the season before the weigh off. the scar from the split in the first picture is slightluy visable in the second pic. and this pumpkin's stem split as you can see and had a gap that was fanned continuosly all season once it started and i weekly turned off the fan, folded a piece of paper and lined up captan in the fold and blew it into the stem crack with the air from and empty turkey baster. figured it was smart to kill any spores finding its way into a perfect cave to grow in behind the stem on the pumpkin. so i would treat the areas with captan either way and fan them to continue heal as they crack heal buttefly open heal all slowly with time. and it was smart to have your ground saturated before the rains hit. maybe just do not overload one any one day. weed one day. prune terts the next. terminate reamining secondaries the next day if not completed. spread out things that might put a surge if you did it all at once. and do what you normally do and lose sleep at night. lol. hopefully you will be fine and just superficial.

Thanks for the reassurance. I hope you're right. Not much I can do but wait and see. Part of the sport I guess. I'm sure I am pushing it, trying to stay on this side of the line. For my first year, I really don't know where the line is.

looked at your pic. yep. that is how my 1446 looked. it was fine in the long run. and you can see in that first pic i posted, there ended up being more than one. they all healed fine. just keep an eye on them, keep em dry, daconil painted on or captan powder and leave a fan on them all day every day if you have access to power. i know what it is like..nerve wracking when growing at that pace early on. these little things all season long will be the beef of the stories come weigh off day. keep that big'n hooked on the line and land her on the scale come october. best of luck brother.

I'll do my best to play her out...I have no illusions of grandure, but just watching these things is the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life.
