the first true wave of cuke beetles arrived here today for the first time all season. i have been in the patch a lot every day for 21 days during the chicago construction strike. tonight while looking at my long necked gourds on the other side of my property i saw at least 10 cuke beetles total around the many flowers that open at dusk and stink like death. strong smelling flowers attracted a bunch that ended up falling one by one off the plant when they tasted the insectide. just a heads up to local growers. after seeing some growers like jamie from colorado having angular leaf spot most likely brought in with cukes, it is a good reminder to keep up with spraying eventhough you do not see them around. preventative maintenance is the key. and do not forget about your other plants like mine that could attract them and have a few lucky ones find their way into doing damage on the pumpkin plants.

We have them bad in NC- both spotted and striped.

I've been putting out bug dust on my plants

There seem to be more this year than last both species

I'm on my 3rd wave of them here lol.
Along with foaming stumps, double vines and sterile plants.
But alas my competition plant has escaped these perils so far. Knock on wood.

I was losing a battle to cuke beetles here a bit ago until all of a sudden nature gave me a hand.
Been seeing alot of these giant wasps(not sure what kind they are,redish/brown) that have been carrying off everything from cuke beetles, to SVB's to squashbugs. Been seeing a good more of assasin bugs and soldier beetles.
Went out to the garden last night and counted 7 american toads and 3 grey treefrogs(on my tall corn). Finally some help! LOL
