I was watering under the canopy with a hose this morning and saw a mouse run into my patch. It ran out from under a pallet that I use to gain some height so I can get over my fence. I may also have one under my 889 fruit, but it may be a toad . What would be the best way to get the mice with out attracting more. My wife suggested decon, but I am not sure if that will attract more. I am more concerned about the critter under the pumpkin. Any suggestions ?

Put traps all around your pumpkin, a lot of traps. My buddy Darryl Crosby lost what could have been a world record squash to a stupid mouse last season. Get some of the sticky paper as well to lay around the pumpkin to catch them.

I think the mice are going to be around whether you put out decon or not. As far as good traps/baits, a victor spring trap baited with peanut butter is still hard to beat.
As far as something that's mouse-repelling, I have heard that ferret urine works. I've never tried this, and am not sure how one would go about collecting ferret urine (I don’t think I want to know). I buy doe scent at the sporting goods store, so someone has figured this sort of thing out. Sounds like a job for Mike Rowe.

I put out baited traps on the edges of the patch. Also I put moth balls between two pcs. of tape and lay them around the base of the pumpkin to repel bugs and critters. The tape makes them easier to pick up at the end of the season. Also I have a patch cat that patrols the patch. Small tunnels going under the fruit is a tell tale sign of mice living under the fruit.
