Hi,

Has anyone successfully used a 20% milk/water solution spray to control powdery mildew? I've been reading on some websites that this is an effective way to control PM.

Thanks,
Greg

I've been doing it for two years now and it works well here. I use 30% skim milk powder every couple of weeks.

I got some PM this year. Had several suggestions to spray it with 40% skim milk in the chat room. It stopped it dead in its tracks. I've been spraying it once a week since. The leaves that had it on it have some spots of dead cells, but the PM didn't spread to any new leaves or even more on the leaves that were already infected. It is now part of my spray program.

10% milk,a little baking soda, plus some corn meal in the soil, best year ever for me compared to chemical treatments.Once every 10 days underside of the leaves, topside after a rain. Not a very controlled experiment though,lol..Unfortunately when I am asked at the fair if I used milk I will have to say yes...

Based on the good luck that I'm hearing I think I'm going
to give the skim milk a try. I suppose I can alternate
between Daconil and milk since the daconil will help with
other diseases.

We've used a 10-40% solution since 2003 with good results use low fat or skim milk not whole.

From what I've read in older posts(type in "corn meal" on the site search)corn meal encourages good fungi in the soil, may work against PM.
