I have a problem with a " FURRY MOLD " type of fungus growing on the outside of my peatpots. The weather hasn't been warm enough here in Nova Scotia to leave my plants outside where they could get some good ventilation. I have the plants in my basement with a fleuresant light over them 24 hours a day. They are growing pretty good and are just getting their 3rd leaves now. I've used a little plant prod 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer on them a few days ago and I can see an improvement in them all ready. Does any one have the same fungus problem as I do? I would appreciate any information or ideas on how I can get rid of this fungus on my transplant pots. I am afraid that it might get on my transplants and kill them.

Jeff,
Yes i have had that fuzz grow a little bit on the outside of my peat pots but my plants don't stay in those pots maybe 7 days max. I just gently tear the moist peat pot siding off while holding it over the prepared planying spot and then get rid of that peat material.
what size peat pots are you using? do you have roots coming to the outside of the pot also?
You should tear off that peat pot gentley and put those plants in the ground, being careful not to disturb the root system. it's time to get them babies outdoors.

gophergirl,
My plants are in 4" peatpots but there is no sign of roots showing threw the pots as yet. The plants are getting very tall and some days when it is warm I put them outside, but the wind will sometimes bend the plant over and I'm afraid that the wind will break them off. I think you're correct by suggesting that the plants are ready to be planted outside in the garden. My only worry is that it is still a bit cold in my area for pumpkins to grow. I think I should have some type of shelter over them in the night time, but when you have 30 plants to cover it can get very costly to buy enough material to make 30 individual shelters. Never the less, I think I am going to plant them outside in the garden very soon and I hope that the weather will warm up soon in my area.

I've also had this. I would suggest spraying the outside with some fungicide. Then dry the outside with a fan and make sure there is space between the pots
