The patch I aquired next door is filthy with hay root. The clown who was there before me put hay on top of the 12" of compost he put on and it seeded. Does anybody know of a good way to get rid of this stuff or am I stuck with it for this year..I tilled it twice and raked it but the stuff is still everywhere..afraid this patch may look like a field come September..If the soil wasn't so awesome I might not plant in it this year, but the dirt is like black gold..

Roundup has no soil persistance. If those tilled clumps try to regrow (& they will), spray them as they occur.
I would hand work the main planting area & the first 10' or so of desired main area. Pick all the clumps you can from here. So hopefully there won't be any Timothy or Orchard grass popping up in these places. The rest should be OK since you probably will have time to till these under again before the vines get there. If not tilling, then you could still safely use the Roundup, watching for drift of course.
