This will be my 2nd year for growing pumpkins. Last year toward the end of summer my main vine was attacked by something, I was told the problem most likely was borers. I don't know if my problem is the same thing as squash vine borers and I also have my pumpkins growing right next to edible items. How can I prevent this from happening again?

I would suggest that you bury the vines, which protects them from the wind and makes them less vulnerable to bugs. Also, try a powder pesticide that lists squash vine borers and sprinkle it on your plants. Use an irrigator soaker hose or watering can so you don't wash the pesticide off. Hope this helps....good luck
