A fungicide powder would be a better choice. Your rolling the dice with the baby powder. Maybe it will dry the split but, without fungicidal action, who knows if it can stop the rot?

We have used it and although i cant say it has any healing properties, it helped it pull our atleast one plant tru. Some thing with a sterilizing/fungicidal action like christrules mentioned might be better though. Sulpur is used by many to apply on cracks and splits.
