Garden State Pumpkins

Hey, I'm a first time grower of the giant pumpkins and have alot to learn from reading all these messages. But I seemed to have gotten over the plants collapsing..But this morning while watering the plant I saw a yellow with black spots on one of the plants..this one is doing the worse with alot of leaf damage...what is the best solution to eliminating these pest's in northern new Jersey...Thanks

I have had green cukes with spots and yellow cukes with stripes. Haven't had the combination of color and spots you have but it sounds like it is a cuke beetle. There is a pic of the spotted green one in my growers diary if you want to compare to yours. Not only to they munch on your plants they carry diseases. I think most growers out there have success using Sevin. I have been using a liquid Diazinon and it seems to take care of them also. Many growers will recommend that you spray in the evening after your blossums have closed because some of these sprays will also kill bees. The problem with that is my cuke beetles love to party inside the blossums.

IMHO- Sevin does the best job. I have used Bug-B-Gone and Pyrethrin/Rotenone, both worked but I saw more dead bugs after spraying with Sevin. Sevin also kept hem away longer. --Bruiser
