I have the same kind of flies in my hoop houses that Bumkin has(http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=154946).
Lots of them. Should I start spraying now, or is it too late to hope for the world record?

Might be the flies that cause seed corn maggots. You may want to treat the plant with a weak does of merit. I have not had that problem before. You probably should wait for a few more people to respond before you do anything though.

You have post hatch corn seed maggots..I usually am relieved to see them..they are no longer interested in eating the seedling at this stage. I tend to avoid watering for a few days ..the corn seed maggots love cold wet soil..I tried to preheat my hoops a few weeks ahead of transplant to get them to emerge..so far I have flies but no seedling damage..maybe it worked?

I also make sure to pre-treat the soil around my seedling with a dose of merit 75 a few days before I transplant. I hate corn seed maggots..I lost 2 seedlings last year and the year before..Mark
