Last night an animal ate chunks out of my two pumpkins. Not too deep so I don't think it is fatal. Can any one provide advice if I should treat the damage to the pumpkins or just leave them alone to heal? I put fence around the pumpkins to hopefully deter the rodent.

placing a fan in front of the damage to dry it out is a good first step if the wounds haven't dried already. Dusting with Captan or sulphur should prevent any uglies from starting. Good luck!

Fox or coyote urine will usually scare off small animals like rabbits and groundhogs. If I get that kind of damage I just keep an eye on it. And if it gets any black fungus showing I scrape it off and paint it with a little daconil.

Glad to hear it. How'd you do him in? Personally, I keep a Varminator 5000 out in my pumpkin shed(22-250).
