poked a knife in where one was oozing, hissed at me. felt hollow in there, do I open it up a little to breath before putting fan on it? or leave it alone? I have captaned around it, removed some ends of vines to bleed water. cleaned out around stump for better air flow, etc.

Sounds like you did what you needed to do. Now you just gotta put thhe fan on it and allow it to dry up.

It sound like you did basically what you need to do, make sure it drains, get air to it to dry out, cover to keep rain out and add fungicide of some sort. The other things are inspect the vine upto to the pumpkin for soft spots where it may have leaked before and make sure the vine is hard. If it goes soft you may need to remove some of it to save the pumpkin.
