I had those all over my pumpkins last year when I lived down there. I never saw anything wrong Because of them(I did not look to much), but I would like to hear what other ppl say

Try www.ipga.ws they have a new pests and diseases link on there it has been great help for me.

I just checked the IPGA website, the bug is a squash bug I think there is info on what to do about them on the IPGA website.

Squash bugs will suck on the leaves of your plant causing black spots to form, even killing new growth. They can also spread disease. They will eventually find their way under the leaves and lay clusters of reddish/brown eggs and then you got yourself a mess. Pick them off and squish them as you see'em then spray with something, top and bottom of leaves, to kill off the ones you don't see.

Kill them,kill them,kill them, If they do start laying eggs and you have a large amount of them already, look out. I was spraying for them last yr and still lost 10 accorn squash plants to them. Just picked 8 off my 652 Pukos plant and at least 2-3 off all other plants.I do it by hand as I water. They seem to move around while watering and as soon as I see one I grab it and KILL it.It helps if you have a couple people watching for them with you. Anyhow back to my point KILL THEM!!!!!!!!!!!

I squashed him. I'll spray with sevin. I haven't seen but one so far; so they must just now be coming out?
I don't see any black spots on the leaves yet.
I'll read Len's article and see if I can find the systemic insecticide. It's hard to find any insecticides here in AZ.
Thank you all very much for the information.
My plants are doing really good right now and I am pollinating some nice ones so I don't want to loose any.

You must have got some bad stuff, it works on them for me, but to answer you question I like the eight better seems easyer on the plant.

Sevin will kill squash bugs. But also your bees and your good bugs. So you might have to hand pollenate your plants.I didn,t have any squash bugs last year,I haven,t seen any this year. If they show up im going to try and hand pick them off first. I have alot of organic books here. Im going to look and see what can be done before i use any kind of sevin or other bug killers. If i find something that will work I,ll post how it does... Greg
