On early post of "Eight vs Sevin," Uncle Buck said active ingredient in Eight was deltamethrin. My label of Eight states active ingredient is permethrin 2.5%. Tremor (Steve) what is the effectiveness of permethrin and how hard is it on the plant (I'm tired of leaf burn from Sevin....even in low temps and at low rates).

Well I'm no Steve but I did use a Permethrin based spray (not eight)on Blackflies last year.
It didn't hurt the plant had to really drown the flies with the stuff to kill them.

Permethrin is marketed commercially under the trade names Astro, Pounce, & others. Good stuff. I use Astro occasionally. Fast & lasts. Easy on plants.

Deltamethrin (Deltagard, Suspend, etc) is a little faster & more effective at lower rates. As such, it is the most common insecticide used today by the interior pest control applicator crowd. The outdoor pest rate can be as low as .013 lbs of active ingredient per acre. This makes it the lowest labeled rate insecticide in the world. Very nice mammalian toxicity profile too. So it's very safe around people.

Given the choice of the two, I'd probably take the Deltamethrin containing product over the Permethrin one. But I doubt much visible performance would be noted.

But here I'm using Befenthrin (Talstar, Capture etc) & Lambda-cyhalothrin (Warrior, Battle, Scimitar) in rotation now that warmer weather has arrived. Bifenthrin also controls mites. The others either don't or are very weak. Befenthrin also has a real 28 day residual. The best & longest there is.

I recently learned that Spectracide is marketing Lambda-cyhalothrin to consumers (watered down version of Battle/Scimitar) under the trade name Triazicide. It took some fancy political wrangling to get this one registered in New York I can tell you that! Kudos to Spectracide!

Jeff....Triazicide is good stuff, I use it.

I missed this one somehow.

Yes Jeff. Trazicide is Lamda-cyhalothin & is very good. I wish I'd known about it earlier in the season. I told some people (in error) that L-c wasn't available to consumers & I was wrong.

My trouble is that I only supply chemicals to professionals. So I tend to ignore the consumer lines somewhat. We do bag fertilizer for resellers & retailers & keeping up with that is enough to keep me pretty busy.
