Trazicide is Lambda-cyhalothrin & it's not a systemic. If borers are causing frass at exit holes, it'll mighty hard to kill them now with a contact no matter how good it is. It still has to "contact" the borer to work. Not possible if the devil is deep within a vine. Triazicide would be great to keep the adults at bay so they don't lay more eggs. But I'm concerned for the ones that are already hatched & eating. A fast acting systmic is in order if this is what we're talking about.

Merit, Admire, Provado, & the old (& the new on Long Island) grubx are all the same thing. Imidacloprid. But fairly slow on the uptake to the tune of several days.

There are some faster molecules. Let me check some labels to be sure they won't cause damage. BRB.

well it`s time for my annual stupid question. since i only get one per year, i ponder fer quite a spell before asking. i`ve always been led to believe, we way out here in the west don`t have the svb. i`ve never seen one (to my knowledge) and don`t want to. but several times this season i have found a hole at the base of leaf stems on several plants. the holes are about 3/16" wide and 1/4" tall. they are usually on dead or near dead leaves. the holes usually have a reddish brown color encircling it and go all the way thru to the hollow stem insides. from what i`ve read here it sounds similar to svb to me. can anyone give me more symptoms to look for to confirm svb or rule it out as pumpkin paranoia? i`ve done post-mortem disections of the fallen stems with negative sightings of any insect inside.

There are at least 31 variations of Melittia or the family that out friend the SVB belongs to. There are likely many more than that , but that's what I found in 3 minutes.

Perhaps one or more are in your area but haven't yet developed the ability to complete a life cycle in your host plant. YET.

I used Triazicide concentrate in the drench/foliar spray bottle a few days ago, to help back up the Merit. I didn't use it as a foliar, my Thiodan/Sevin/Malathion cocktail is strong enough for the SVB's.

I'd say the Melittia species' glass may be rising. Your's is a matter of your own interpretation. I hope it overflows! Mine does in my eyes.

Get some yellow or orange sticky traps. Take whatever it is to a trained entomolgist for accurate diagnosis. There could be a new trend developing for which you can become famous! Or loathed! LOL
