Bidrin is a nasty skull & cross bones class "B" Poison Insecticide that is very hard to get. I can. Just wondering if anyone has ever injected a pumpkin that was already infested with SVB. In tall tree work, I've seen it kill borers way up in the canopy within hours of injection. The same capsules (Maujet brand) would be useless for pumpkins. But there could be other ways to introduce it without destroying the vine.

Any historical useage out there? Thoughts or comments?

Never had an SVB infestation but I think a nematode injection has been posted on here. If I recall there was no damage to the vine from the injection and the larva were dealt with...Maybe it was Farmer Scott but I'm not sure...seems to me to be a good safe way of handling the problem for the plant and people.

you are correct Chuck......i had a borer in the vine a couple of years back, and did use a nematode injection.. worked like a charm. that left me with more free time to play with the lizards! :)

I've used bidrin to treat dutch elm disease many years ago and it's nasty stuff. protective suit, gloves and goggles to apply it as the containers were under pressure to inject it into the trees.I think I'd find something different to use, just my opinion. Ray

Don't worry Ray. I hate the stuff too. And between Merit & Scimitar we have no reason to try it now. I'm just curious if it's ever been injected into a growing vine with a medical syringe & what the results might be. There are plenty of other growers who may end up ending their season early if borers have gotten into their vines. This could be a solution if desperate measures were called for.

DED is the only reason I ever use it now. Good for Bronze Birch Borers too. But I really don't like drilling holes into Birches unless death is the alternative & it's a high value specimen.
