Try anything that smells attractive to a woodchuck that they are not used to such as apples.

If you trap it, do away with it, if you take it some place and let it go, it will come back.

apples have always worked best for me.

Last year I caught two in my have no heart trap without any bait, they just walked in. Usually a green apple works well to catch them.

Have-a-heart traps work pretty good and then use the 22 on them. They never seem to come back after that.

Quarter some apples works here.

I like the New Hampshire Ba-Da-Bing approach. Just be sure to use sub-sonic 22 caliber ammo for a quieter pop. Almost every pumpkin-eating varmint I know of likes sunflower seeds, but probably squash, melons, or veggies would work, too.

Maybe Norm can share what his record is for most woodchucks caught in a season.

Red Maters, cantaloupe,If you sit the trap on there path they will usually walk right in it.

poor joe he had to have spent at least $30.00 on ammo, and all that time disposing 204 of them somewhere, boy you think the chucks would have learned to eat somewhere else! joe quick tip to save some money, use a have-a-heart trap, then use a 22, you wont waste any ammo that way, i'm not saying your not a good shot, but we all miss now and then, just trying to save you some money on ammo, ps. my son shot 5 last year, he is catching up to you!lol, scott

LoL Scott. The 22-250 made it too much fun and besides, shooting all those chucks gained me a lot of hunting access from some very grateful farmers. It was well worth the cost.

I used to drive live 'chucks at least 20 miles away. Then I stopped wasting gas and buried the bodies under wood chips. Just bones after 3 months.

Or you can Google recipes for woodchuck. I've read it doesn't taste like chicken.

put a pile of wood in the patch. once the woodchuck is done chucking wood, he'll be tired and easier to shoot. Of course, that begs the question of....

i have used green apples in the past, however we have trapper here at work that traps them legally, and he uses margarita mix, he pours it inside the trap, he also puts cardboard on the floor of the trap as he says they don't like the wire mesh feel on their feet. i have had success with the margarita mix and cardboard combo
